Fluxx seeks Performers for Impro Adventure

Fluxx is a national theatre arts organisation operative since 1989. In that time it has created shows across the UK, in Europe and the USA. It specialises in interactive work, placing the spectator in an influential role within the theatre process. See more at www.fluxx.co.uk. You can also join as an associate on https://www.facebook.com/groups/fluxximpro/

We are currently looking for performers based in the Brighton & Hove area to participate in an innovative and unique production, Missing In Brighton. This format of show is still at a developmental stage and is unfunded. Therefore we can only offer expenses for participation.

The show is modelled around a hunt for a missing person. It doesn’t take place in a theatre but across Brighton & Hove at locations organised between actors and spectators. It happens like this: the opening is a press conference to publicise the disappearance of Dan, 18. It is led by his parents. This event is attended by those who have bought a ticket for the show. At the press conference the ticket holders learn about Dan. The parents have limited knowledge of what happened to him; they know he came to Brighton and got involved with some trouble, and then he disappeared. They want help to get him back.

On the website, www.missinginbrighton.com are photos and information on the various friends and associates that feature in Dan’s world. Ticket holders are encouraged to contact these individuals, to meet with them and discover why he disappeared and where he currently is hiding. At these meetings they will learn information, effectively clues to his story. We are looking for four performers to add to our existing cast, to play the parts of these characters in Dan’s life. These characters will be largely created by the actors playing the roles, within the story template as created by Fluxx’s Director, Chris Johnston.

Obligations are as follows:

to attend a 3 hour planning/prep meeting over 2/3 May (time tba)
to attend a 3 hour planning/prep meeting over 16/17 May (time tba)
to participate during week of 19-24 May
to attend and participate in a concluding event on 24 May (evening)

Re. participation in week of 19-24 May, performers will be able to determine the extent of their participation and the days/times/locations of their individual meetings with spectators. Last year performers attended an average of 4-5 encounters. The earliest took place at 9am, the latest at midnight. There will be co-ordination between company members since dramatic encounters between the characters will be also be staged to coincide with these meetings.

We are looking for performers with an instinct for adventure, risk and innovation. You may be meeting strangers in public places (café, pub, etc.) without other company members present. And you’ll be doing this ‘in character’. Last year’s project, The Girl Who Walked Into The Sea concluded with a confrontation between the missing girl, Lucy, and her father. This meeting was brought about by the spectators who found Lucy. We anticipate a conclusion to this project that may be similar. It depends on how the spectators get on. However, some kind of conclusion will take place on 24 May, location to be determined.

To have a chat about the project, phone Chris on 07791 544340.
