Short Form in Performance: A Story Kitchen Impro Workshop

Been to see one of our shows and fancy having a go at playing? Want to explore the wonderful world of short form storytelling? Keen to improve your short form game? We will be running an intensive workshop on Saturday 15th October 2016, 10am-5pm for improvisers of all levels to focus on playing short form in performance, used in formats such as Theatresports. Tickets £30, available from http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/2582262

The day will begin with some simple games and exercises to warm up, followed by an introduction/revision of a variety of short form games designed to develop listening, physicality and spontaneity.

We will then move onto developing scene work using 3-line scenes, and look at how this can be incorporated into performance games such as Genre game and short form scene work, for example Status switch.

After a break for lunch, we will look more closely at some of the elements we use in Theatresports, for example the Hat Game, and using the horn to embrace 'happy failure'. At the end of the day, we will play a two-team challenge game to explore the day's learnings.

Story Kitchen Impro is a improvisation theatre company based in London, founded by Faye Brann. Faye is a writer and improviser, recently returned to London after nine years living in the Middle East. She started Story Kitchen Impro on her return to the UK in order to pursue her love of the impro formats created by Keith Johnstone.

Until her move to London, Faye was part of the house team at the Courtyard Playhouse in Dubai, captaining short form shows for theatre audiences, working with schools and corporate clients and performing at several arts festivals in the region. Among others, she has trained with Patti Stiles from Impro Melbourne and Shawn Kinley from the Loose Moose Theatre, and in 2016 won Best Female Improviser at the UAE Comedy Awards.

For the past few years, Faye has performed, directed and hosted Keith Johnstone's Theatresports and Maestro formats regularly as part of the Courtyard Playhouse annual programme of events. She has coached teens for Theatresports schools tournaments and has also devised and run workshops for beginner adult improvisers.
